What a Horrendous week !!
After 6 years of drought conditions, it basically has not stopped raining since October, but the last 10 days has been a deluge of rain causing mass flooding for us at Eden’s as well as many other fisheries.
With all dykes, streams, land drains, roads and fields over spilling and just totally saturated and with knowhere for the water to go except into our lakes and ponds.
We have some real special friends that came over to help us with some last minute work that we were struggling to complete due to me having a fall and fracturing my ribs.
Not that this has stopped me from working, as most owners/managers will understand what needs to be done to keep fisheries running and with Karen at my side doing as much as possible too the last few weeks.
We had to drain down and net and move our fish from my big stock pond !!!! Didn’t start well, with a big oak fell into it and had to be removed.
But with the torrential down pours that followed and every source of water running into it and we struggled to get it drained and pumped out, we suffered 19 lost fish during last week.
It should of been a simple drain down and task under normal conditions but the “depth” 10ft and shape caused us a lot of issues with more water running in than we could remove. All 3 lakes and 7 ponds were bursting there banks.
Big thanks to my son Conor who came over for 3 days to help as he is also very experienced in fish farming.
But not forgetting my good Friend and fishing buddy Marc ,who was accompanied with Stuart and also our good friend Andy.
These guys worked there f###ing nuts off and in the horrendous weather conditions, heavy rain, hail, thunderstorm, heavy winds, more rain.
We also managed to get two massive complete swim rebuilds done on Jolly pads with Marc and Stuart taking the responsibility with the main wood build for me and metal shoring fronts work, and them timbers were heavy carting them along the bank.
With me and Andy doing the ground work side of things, and the help of my trusty digger and truck, and we had a few hairy moments with trucks and vans lol removed some trees and branches too.
The guys managed a few nights proper fishing before they left early weds and early Thursday morning with a stunning 52.04lb for and a p/best 63.04lb for Stuart.
Myself and Karen have been flat out since you guys left and have finally just sat down , I actually managed to cut some grass today and we have all the lakes prepared for tomorrow’s guests.
Also a big thankyou to Karen for looking after us all week keeping us fed and watered.
So again we thankyou all again for your time, hard work and your friendship and we certainly won’t forget this week in a hurry
