The long awaited Tom Maker guest tutorial week had arrived, for Tom this was the first visit to Eden’s Lakes taking over for Adam Penning this year. On arrival Tom did not waste any time and was straight around the lakes looking and asking questions, luckily everyone was here early and the anglers from the week before all departed early morning too so the turn around was pretty quick with the grass cut and our anglers shown their lakes and a brief description by myself on known spots and lake bed features etc…with this done all the anglers were left to set up their gear and catch up with them later on.
It wasn’t long before the lads on Jolly Pads Mark & Tim were into action with a double and a couple of 20’s and also Phil on the North Lake with a 41.00lber .All was a bit quiet during the night but after breakfast on Sunday morning all the guys started getting their spots going with pellet and particle with crushed/whole boilies and the fish started to come on a regular basis especially on Jolly Pads for Mark and Tim. On the North lake Lewis banked himself a 32.00lb mirror which was his first ever French fish as he has never been to France before fishing, Meanwhile Phil was on a bit of a roll banking 4 fish on Sunday with another 3 x40lb plusses and a high 20. Phil and Matt also rescued a stunning fish all tethered up in line and rigs and towing twigs, so big thanks to the lads for that, “WISH PEOPLE WOULD TELL ME WHEN THEY LOSE TACKLE “ and it did not end there as Tom also retrieved several lines also from the lake but at the end of the day fish safety will always come first and the fish was saved and several lines and rigs were removed .
Later on Sunday evening Phil was still on the fish banking him self yet a couple more fish and Tom managed to get the stunning SUPERGLUE FISH at 38.06lb, Matt also caught his first fish of the session a 41.00lb mirror and Lewis also banked a 41.00lb and a 48.10lb beast, the Jolly Pad lads were storming with plenty of fish being banked to 29.08lb and Wes on Simon’s started to get a couple of fish under his belt also.
The weather was warm but very overcast with the odd light shower but the fish were still coming out, Jolly Pads lads was still catching steadily and were on 26 fish now to 35.10lb, Wes on Simon’s Lake was on fish to 38.03lb and north lake 16 fish , Phil alone on the North Lake was on 9 fish with 6 x 40s to 43.08lb,Tom with a 38.06lb Matt 41.00lb and Lewis 4 fish to 48.10lb. Tom spent the day going around the lakes having chats with the guys having a bit of Q & A with them and if they needed any help/tips with anything and talking rigs.
Wes on Simon’s banked a couple of nice 30s and a lovely koi today. Tom spent the day around the lakes again with the lads but the highlight this afternoon was the French virgin Lewis not happy with the 48.10 mirror he only went and NOT ONLY SMASHED HIS PERSONAL BEST AWAY BUT ALSO BROKE THE NORTH LAKE RECORD AGAIN! With the mighty Split-Tail at a New weight of 63.12lbs,as you can imagine we are all over the moon today, and well we all got some great photos as you can see and of course Lewis got rather wet for his efforts lol.
A bit cooler today with little bursts of sun but mostly cloudy, Tom is out and about teaching a couple of the guys the ins and outs of Zig Rig fishing today and also solid bag fishing. The sun has come out to play this afternoon and is a right scorcher but there was fish from all 3 lakes again in the heat of it with Wes getting a 31.00lb, 38.08lb and a 39.08lb from Simon’s Lake and Matt on the north lake with the demon common at 41.00lb and Lewis with a 31.00lb common, and Mark and Tim still bagging fish on a regular basis and a couple of nice fish to 35.00lb.
Again another very hot day and Tom is around the lakes again with the RIG CLINICS we have found this year working with the anglers doing the rig clinics on the lakes is a bit better and does not interfere with fishing time especially as we have got the nice weather, if it was raining we would do it indoors with the anglers but the one on ones/twos are so much better lake side, so today we have been seeing 2 different styles of chod rigs,360 rigs, stiff hinge and a different approaches again with different setups with zig fishing while Tom was working on the North Lake with the lads Matt has managed another two fish out a 38.08lb and 31.00lb both mirrors, must say the lads have all taken note this week with the tactics and baiting approaches towards the lakes from each swim and it has worked so far but also tried a few different tactics that have also worked and it’s nice that the fish are playing ball. To cap the afternoon off Lewis again on the North Lake managed yet another good fish of 48.06lb just before all the lads came up for dinner. Matt also banked yet another personal best mirror this evening of 48.00lb
Bit of a quiet day all round today, turned a bit cooler with the new wind just a 31.00lb mirror out to Lewis on the North Lake today, Wes on Simon’s had two more out to 38.04lb and Mark and Tim banked another 8 or so fish into the 20lb bracket
And so ends a very good week with Tom Maker, he had some big shoes to fill after Adam Penning’s last three events with us, but boy did he do well and certainly filled them shoes, and was a real gentleman and a wealth of knowledge and works hard with the clients. All 3 lakes fished well this week and some cracking fish all round to the anglers and several personal bests beaten and also a NEW NORTH LAKE RECORD 63.12LB, a big thanks to Tom for a Job well done this week working with the guys around the lakes with one on one tutorials and rig clinics which were a great success and I am sure the guys all went away with extra pointers to use when back at home fishing, just one last thing I would like to say is Tom put all the guests first and spent most of the days and some time in the evenings before his own fishing and was always on hand for the guys especially the north lake clients that were fishing with Tom in the evenings. We at Eden’s look forward in seeing Tom in the future whether on business, work or pleasure.
Best wishes
Dene, Karen and all the Eden’s Lakes team
We now look forward to our next Tutorial on September 5th with Iain Macmillan
